Sibling Preparation for Parents
This class gives parents helpful tips for how to prepare their child (ren) for the birth of a new baby. It is most helpful for parents whose children are 2 to 8 years old.
Register now >> or call (206)789-0883.
Class Topics
Topics include: ideas for age-appropriate things you can do during pregnancy to teach your child about babies and the changes they bring, planning and preparing your child for what will happen while you are in labor and during your hospital stay, and ways to help smooth out any challenges in the early weeks and months with a new baby in the house. We will address emotional challenges, regression, safety issues, ways to help prevent or defuse the jealousy that naturally arises, and ways to help your older child learn how to interact well with the baby.
Logistics
This class is held in a room adjacent to where the Sibling Preparation for Kids >> class is held, at the same time. We do require that each child at the Kids’ class be accompanied by one parent at all times.
Some families choose to sign up for both Sibling Prep for Kids and Sibling Prep for Parents on the same night, and one parent will attend the Kids’ class with their child while the other parent attends the Parents’ class. (Parents are welcome to trade off if their older child changes his mind about which parent he would like to attend the Kids’ class.) Some parents decide to do these classes on separate nights: one month they find a babysitter for the older child, and both parents attend the Sibling Preparation for Parents class, then the next month, they return with their child for the Sibling Preparation for Kids class.
