How is social support a stress management tool?
Knowing that we are part of a larger community that cares about us and values us is what makes a social support network important. It's not about how many "friends" we have on Facebook or how many "tweets" we send or receive. It's about the quality of the support and that people in our lives value us and we value them.
A strong network of social support (a caring community) can be a buffer (moderating factor) for stress related diseases. Strong social supports can also help build self esteem and make life more enjoyable!
