Make Daily Routines More Fun for Your Kids

All people have daily routines that they need to complete each day – it is the same for kids!

Daily Routine Cards can help your child feel motivated to do their regular daily tasks.

Here’s how to make Daily Routine Cards:

1. Pick Simple Activities: Ask your child to list 4-5 activities that they can do by themselves. Examples: Brush teeth, feed your pet, pick a bedtime book, choose clothes for tomorrow, put on pajamas, brush hair, etc.

2. Make the Cards: Using cardstock or cardboard, ask your child to draw pictures of these activities or find simple examples that you and your child can find together online. They don’t have to be fancy pictures. Simpler the better!

3. Organize the Cards: Put the cards in a pile. By the pile, have a small basket or box to put the cards into as your child finishes the activity.

4. Completing Tasks: Your child will choose a task card, do the task, and put the card in the basket/box.

5. Celebrate! Celebrate when your child has completed all the activities on the cards. Pick up the cards and say, “You completed 5 tasks!” and then list off the tasks that were completed while thumbing through the cards. Make the celebrating short and sweet and specific.
